We teach ESL (English as a Second Language) to business professionals at their offices in Chapel Hill, Durham and RTP; we teach college students at our home located between Chapel Hill and Durham.
Eileen teaches spoken English and accent reduction; Steve teaches writing and editing skills.
Where Do You Hold Classes?
We teach ESL to business professionals at their offices in RTP, Chapel Hill, and Durham.
We teach ESL to college students at our home located a few miles north of Chapel Hill—15 minutes from UNC and 15 minutes from Duke (only 2 1/2 miles north of I-40, Exit 266).
How Much Do You Charge?
Our fee for tutoring college students (at our home) is $35/hour.
Our fee for tutoring business clients is negotiated according to each company’s specific needs.
What Are Your Qualifications?
Eileen taught ESL at the Berlitz School of Languages in London, England and at Duke University in Durham, NC. At Duke, she teaches ESL to international graduate students enrolled in the Global Institute at the Fuqua School of Business. ♦♦♦ Before moving to North Carolina in 2008, Eileen created and taught a program at Garrett College in Maryland for students needing help with career development. ♦♦♦ She home-schooled her son through high school and was rewarded for her efforts in 2011 when he earned his Ph.D. degree in psychology. ♦♦♦ Eileen maintains a private ESL practice in Chapel Hill for graduate students and teaches language skills to corporate ESL clients in RTP. ♦♦♦ She volunteers as an ESL tutor in a public schools in Orange County. ♦♦♦ She was awarded a Teaching Degree from St. Mary’s College of Education at the University of London and pursued ESL language training at the Berlitz School of Languages in London. ♦♦♦ Before moving to Chapel Hill, Eileen completed training through the Shanti organization in San Francisco to provide emotional support services to clients in crisis. In Maryland, she studied personal coaching techniques through Coach for Life in Hagerstown.
Steve is author of a 400-page county history, editor of a 100-page health book, and developer of a website featuring the work of senior writers from around the country. ♦♦♦ He taught English composition at Garrett College in McHenry, MD, and began providing editorial services to academic writers and scholars in Chapel Hill in 2008. ♦♦♦ He served for thirteen years as executive director of an award-winning county arts council in western Maryland, where he wrote reports, press releases, policy manuals, website copy, budgets, meeting agendas, grant applications, newsletters, and assorted business correspondence. ♦♦♦ Steve wrote technical specifications for a home construction company and restoration specifications for a public project to restore an 18th century log home ♦♦♦ He edited product copy for a national education journal and developed promotional copy for festivals, educational workshops, and performing arts programs. ♦♦♦ He teaches ESL writing skills to graduate students at his home north of Chapel Hill and to business clients at corporate offices.
